Adversarial thinking—arguing against yourself—creates Socratic Pressure by fighting claims made and “separat[ing] us from our prejudices and expectations” (ref).

But how can we find out where we might ourselves find conflict in our thinking? The Socratic method and other techniques to bring attention to internal conflict can be applied to their practitioners. In doing so, there is not only the sudden appearance of a conflict (when one is found), but the understanding of it. This is especially true through the elenchus.
