    • Annotation: (while you most likely do not need this advice by now, I am writing to others who may come across the same question.)

Copying word-for-word is the fastest way to take notes and the worst way to understand the material. We come to understand things by finding out how they relate to other things---we learn through organization.

The best way to guarantee that you understand the material is to require re-organization of the author’s ideas. Actually, don’t write the author’s ideas at all, write your own understanding. Use your own words in doing so. If you don’t, you could be gaining familiarity with the words instead of the ideas.

I recommend the following book’s updated edition for a more in-depth and fact-checked look into what I have said.

Ahrens, S. (2017). How to take smart notes: One simple technique to boost writing, learning and thinking: for students, academics and nonfiction book writers. CreateSpace. #to-process
